Wagner's Instrumente

Das Projekt „Wagner‘s Instrumente“ entstand im Seminar Informations-/Interactiondesign im Sommersemester 2017 in Kooperation mit dem Richard-Wagner-Museum in Bayreuth. Es handelt sich dabei um ein Modell des Orchestergrabens des Bayreuther Festspielhauses mit einer dazugehörigen Informationsgrafik. Beides beschäftigt sich mit den Instrumenten, welche Richard Wagner speziell für seine Opern hat anfertigen oder umbauen lassen. Er hatte oft sehr spezifiische Vorstellungen, in welcher Tonhöhe die Instrumente gespielt zu werden hatten und wie sie klingen sollten. Jedoch entsprachen die regulären Instrumente oft nicht seinen Vorstellungen und so arbeitete er mit einigen Instrumentenbauern zusammen, um seine Wünsche zu realisieren.
Mein Modell zeigt eine schematische Darstellung des Orchestergrabens und Miniaturinstrumente zeigen die jeweilige Position von Wagner‘s speziellen Instrumenten. Die dazugehörige Infografik zeigt die Instrumente im Detail und liefert Wissenswertes zu den Besonderheiten, den Opern in denen das jeweilige Stück verwendet wurde, den Erbauer und Wagner‘s Ideen oder Wünsche zum Bau.

The project "Wagner's Instrumente" ("Wagner's instruments") originated in the seminar information-/interactiondesing of this summer semester 2017 in cooperation with the Richard-Wagner-Museum in Bayreuth. It's composed of a model of the orchestra pit of the Bayreuther Festspielhaus and an additional information graphics. Both deals with Richard Wagner's instruments, which he's got made or reconstructed especially for his operas. He had very specific ideas about the pitch, in which his instruments had to be played and how they should sound. However most regular orchestra instruments didn't meet his expectations and so he worked together with a bunch of instrument makers to implement his wishes.
My model shows a schematic depiction of the orchestra pit and the miniature instruments show the position in which Wagner's special instruments have been placed there. The additional infographics shows the instruments in detail and provides informations about specifics, the operas in which each instrument was used, the instrument maker and Wagner's ideas or wishes about the construction.
